“Just two more girls! Keep those arms up over that face. And knee, kick, jab, and hook.” With just 10 minutes left in class, Catherine, one of the Group X instructors, encourages everyone in the class to keep moving.
Cardio Combat is just one of the 16 different classes offered in the series of Group Xercise classes at the Campus Recreation Center.
For $10 a semester, any student or Campus Recreation Center member can participate in as many Group X classes as they would like. Classes vary from kick boxing to yoga, and weight lifting to body sculpting.
“I would attend Group X again, it helps me to clear my mind and forget about stress for at least the 45 minutes that I am in there,” said WCU Junior Brittany Crain.
Next door to the Campus Recreation Center, Aqua Combo classes are taught four days a week in the Reid Pool from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Trained instructors lead all Group X classes through a warm-up, workout and cool-down.
Times of classes vary, allowing participants the ability to choose which classes they would like to partake in. Classes last for 45 minutes, with 15 minute breaks between afternoon classes.
The Campus Recreation Center offers a few tips for making Group X workout a successful experience:
- Arrive early
- Wear tennis shoes and comfy clothes
- Stay hydrated and take breaks as needed during the classes
