On Friday, Oct. 21, Western Carolina University held Spirit Night at the Central Plaza, an event that brought hundreds of students, faculty and staff.
Events at Spirit Night included the marching band playing alongside Catamount Athletes as well as cheerleaders.
Rachel Rielly, a graduate of Western Carolina and season 13 winner of the television show Big Brother, was supposed to be a guest judge for the various skits and performances put on by current Catamounts, but never showed at the event.
Students showed their Catamount pride as they sang along with the Western Carolina University fight song, wore purple and gold glow sticks and cheered for their fellow students in competition.
Freshman Charles Tabor expressed his excitement at Spirit Night.
“WCU students gathering together like this is really cool and I feel like it captures the Catamount Pride that all of us feel, especially as freshmen,” said Tabor.
Other events for Homecoming include the Homecoming Parade in downtown Sylva, which was held on Friday afternoon where student organizations showed their pride while marching through Sylva. Tomorrow afternoon, the Catamounts take on the Citadel Bulldogs at 3 p.m.
