This year is going to be a special one for Western Carolina University when they host its first ever Dance Marathon 2012 for the kids.
Dance Marathon is a nationwide movement involving college and high school students who raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network, a non-profit organization which raises money for 170 children’s hospitals throughout the country. Money raised will help pay for treatments and medications for young patients. WCU will donate its proceeds to the Children’s Hospital in Greenville, S.C.
Dance Marathon, which is organized by WCU students, will be on March 10, from noon until midnight. Many of the fraternities and sororities from the campus will participate in organizing the events. Some organizations currently work with CMN, such as phi mu who has partnered with CMN for 26 years.
During Dance Marathon students will be on their feet for 12 hours dancing and meeting the children and their families. Before a student can participate, they must raise $10 for Children’s Miracle Network.
“I’m just really excited for our students and the opportunity that they have to do something great for their community,” said Miles Basehart, Residential Director for the Greek Village. “We have some awesome students here and I’m looking forward to seeing how well they will do.”
During February students got involved in this project by participating in the 5K Run February 26.
