Western Carolina Catamount women’s soccer will host the Catamount Classic Tournament at the Catamount Athletic Complex this weekend, Sept. 14 and 16.
The event kick off on Friday with a match between the Campbell Fighting Camels and the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns at 5 p.m. The action will continue when the Catamounts play the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m.
The tournament will end on Sunday with a noon contest between Louisiana-Lafayette and Gardner Webb, followed by a clash between the Catamounts and Campbell at 2:30.
Western Carolina has not hosted a tournament since the last Catamount Classic was held in 2010.
The Catamounts, who are currently 3-3 in non-conference play, are using the tournament for final preparations before Southern Conference play. They will open up conference play against the Elon Phoenix on Friday, Sept. 21.
For fifth-year senior Samantha Hodge, a forward on the squad, home is where the heart is.
“My favorite part about being a Catamount soccer player is playing at home in front of my family. My family comes to a lot of the games. Not just my immediate family and my sisters (her teammates), but just all the fans coming,” she said. “I love when we have the stands full. I love hearing them cheer for us, and winning at home is something really special. It’s fun to celebrate those wins. Just coming off knowing that you played a good game, and you just can’t stop smiling when that happens.”
Hodge and her teammates will be looking for nothing but smiles throughout this weekend’s tournament.
