The catamounts capped off their home schedule in a familiar fashion, with another loss. It was Senior day at E.J. Whitmire Stadium as the catamount fan base said farewell to 11 of it’s members who were playing in their final home game as a catamount. The catamounts appeared determined to send their seniors out with a victory against Chattanooga.
Playing inspired from the opening kick, the catamount seniors had a huge impact on the game in the first half. Elijah Martinez made his presence known in his catamount home finale when he intercepted a pass thrown by Chattanooga quarterback Jacob Huesman and returned it 14 yards to the house, giving the catamounts a 14-7 lead. Nick Woodard also recorded a sack in his final game at Bob Waters Field. With the two squads trading blows for most of the half, it was the catamounts holding on to a 24-16 lead heading into the half.
The talent of the depth chart began to show in the second half when the Mocs gave the catamounts a heavy dose of the ground game. Huesman ran for 130 yards and two touchdowns while Kendrix Huitt added 137 yards on the ground and touchdown of his own. Chattanooga scored 29 unanswered points in the second half to outduel the catamounts 45-24.
The catamounts will have a bye before venturing down to Tuscaloosa, AL to take on the top ranked team in the country, the Alabama Crimson Tide. That game will be at Bryant-Denny Stadium Nov. 17.
