The Western Carolina University football team is looking to make strides in the win column heading into Mark Speir’s second year as head coach.
Despite only winning one game last season for the second straight year, even casual fans could see the increase in competition on the field. Coaches and players are preparing for the future with a confidence that they are ready to advance from simply being competitive to actually winning games on the gridiron.
The official schedule for next season is still being finalized and has not been announced yet. However, it looks to be a challenging year for the Catamounts. They will face three FBS conference teams, beginning with Middle Tennessee State, and following that up with road games against top tier programs Auburn and Virginia Tech. Not only will these games bring more funding to the program, but Coach Speir hopes that they will help prepare the team for Southern Conference play.
