Jeff “Hoss” Howard and his Hoss Howard Band will perform a benefit concert at the Cullowhee Valley School on Saturday, Feb. 23. Doors open at 6 p.m. and prizes will be announced at 6:30 p.m.
The Hoss Howard Band plays southern rock and country style music. In May 2012, the band embarked on a mini-tour of Charlotte, performing at the Food Lion Speed Street Festival as well as the Whiskey River venue at EpiCentre.
For the Cullowhee Valley School concert, local merchants and musicians have donated door prizes and other items to be raffled off, including a guitar worth $2,500.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the school’s 7th grade trip to Camp Greenville, where students will work on team-building activities as well as hiking and a rope course. Students have paid $2,000 of the $9,000 required for the trip.
“We started this endeavor to help fund a trip, and many families just don’t have the extra funds,” said Laura Terry, one of the teachers heading up the event. “As we have been working on this event, something has happened. We have gone beyond simply raising money. We have come together as a school and as a community. We have all worked together to make this special event happen.
Tickets for this event cost $10 and are available at Cullowhee Valley School and the Western Carolina University box office located in the John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center. Box office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
This benefit was originally scheduled for Jan. 25 and was postponed due to winter weather.
