Soul Infusion Tea House and Bistro was packed when Porch 40 played on Saturday, May 4, but when it’s Porch 40 it’s always packed.
Porch 40, a funk/jazz/rock/energy band, has become a local favorite in the Sylva/Cullowhee area.
Andrew Duncan (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Scott Burr (vocals, saxophone, synthesizer), Mitchell Metz (vocals, violin, bass, guitar), Spencer Bradley (drums), Carter McDevitt (bass, guitar) and Brett Wilde (lead guitar) have been playing shows together since the summer of 2012.
After performing multiple times at house parties, No Name Sports Pub and Soul Infusion Tea House and Bistro, Porch 40’s fan base exploded. The energy the band displays during their performances keeps fans on their toes no matter where they are performing.
“I have only missed a handful of shows and even when I am the only one still dancing, it is an absolute blast,” said Miles Olson.
The music scene in Cullowhee/Sylva has been growing even more since Porch 40 started playing. They, along with bands like PMA, Local, Total War and Pearly Peach, have made live music extremely popular in the area.
“Porch 40 is a talented group of musicians who have been an excellent addition to the Cullowhee music scene and I am excited to see what the future holds for them,” said Ren Dey.
Porch 40 plays on the weekends at bars, festivals and anywhere live music can be heard. Just say the name “Porch 40” and local music lovers will know exactly whom you are talking about.
