Western Carolina’s Mountain Heritage Center shares the history of the Appalachian Mountains and the University to the students and visitors. There are many exhibits of artifacts from the local community who were donated to the Center.
The Mountain Heritage Center opened in 1979 using the collection of over 10,000 objects which were donated from local collections or on loan from other local museums and sources.
“The school was founded in service to the community the museum was founded on the same idea as well,” Pam Meister a Curator of the Mountain Heritage Center said.
WCU will be celebrating its 125 year with a kickoff on January 23 where the Mountain Heritage Center will be putting together a large exhibit of WCU through the 1960’s which is also the theme for the University this year.
