Ever wonder what behind the scenes of a sporting event is like?
Western Carolina University is offering students a chance to learn sports marketing and meet professionals who manage events like cricket, rugby and football (soccer) in the United Kingdom.
It is not too late to sign up; all students regardless of major can enroll in the three credit hour class. Application deadline is Feb. 14 with a $500 non-refundable deposit.
The class starts May 12 and end May 25. Students will have the opportunity to explore different types of sports; what sports marketing is like internationally and the culture of sports in the UK.
Program director and professor of sport management Dr. David Tyler, went last year and is planning yet again to take 10 or more students to England.
“I highly value international education and the opportunity to be exposed to things internationally when you are entering a global workforce,” Tyler said.
According to the Institute of International Education less than 10 percent of American college students study abroad each year.
“By our students taking part in something like this, it helps differentiate them and give them something that they wouldn’t get otherwise,” Tyler said.
