The twelfth anniversary of Free Comic Book Day is Saturday May 3, 2014 and will be open to everyone who wants to come. You can grab your free comics at Fandemonium Comics and More in Sylva starting at 10 a.m. They will be open until 6 p.m. or whenever all the comics are gone.
“Get there early,” says owner Keith Love. “Last year they went pretty fast. I’m able to hold a few for my most loyal customers because unfortunately some of them have to work and won’t be able to get their hands on an issue that early. Also, a couple of people were a little greedy and took more than they should have last year so this year we are limiting the number of copies of issues people leave with. We don’t want to leave anybody out.”
Mark Zoran will be returning with his DeLorean for photo ops.
“The DeLorean looks great,” Love says. “He’s been renovating it so much and he’s got it looking awesome.”
The 501st Legion will be there again this year represented by Boba Fett and a Storm Trooper and there will also be an ’89 replica Batmobile. Tana DeMent returns as BatGirl and has modified her outfit from last year.
“I fixed the top so it looks more legit,” DeMent says. “No more cheerleader-looking straps. This is the real deal! I’m so excited!”
Love has switched up his outfit for this year. Last year, he was Bane from the Batman comics. This year, Love will be none other than horror film icon Jason Voorhees.
“It’s gonna take me about an hour to get out of the costume,” Love adds. “But it’s gonna be great. I’m wondering who I can scare this year.”
Free Comic Book Day is the Christmas of the comic book industry. Sales are usually up that day for Love.
If anyone wants free comics, they should be sure to get there early. Love says he always learns something new from FCBD, and last year, he learned that comic fans will probably be waiting on him to show up, so he wants everyone in costume and ready to go long before show time.
Fandemonium will be giving away the Gold package of free comic books sponsored by FCBD. For a list of all comics available in the store tomorrow click here and feel free to learn more about why they have this annual giveaway and what it means to the comic book industry.
