Western Carolina University’s biggest event of the year, Mountain Heritage Day, starts with a 5k race hosted by the Sport Management Association (SMA).
Dr. Charlie Parrish and the SMA met outside the Stillwell science building at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26. Their goal was to get as many runners as possible to participate in the 5k race despite the poor weather. Over 75 people from all ages battled slick hills during the 3.2 mile trek.
The winner this year was a student from Smoky Mountain High School, Evan Grant.
