The Western Carolina Catamounts baseball fell to University of Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks this past weekend making their standing record now 1-5.
The Warhawks won the season home opener on Friday, 11-7. WCU picked up its first win of the year with a 15-7 win on Saturday but quickly fell to a loss Sunday, 16-10.
“This weekend was an example of the offense and defense not being on the same page. It is early though, we can always improve.” Senior Garrett Brown.
On Friday, sophomore starter Brendan Nail took the first loss for the Catamounts pitching 5.2 innings. Senior, Taylor Durand came in to relieve with 2.1 innings. Junior, Chad Mabini closed the game with one inning pitched.
Junior, Bryan Sammons was strong in helping get the first win of the season on Saturday. Senior, Colton Davis came in to relieve with sophomore Corey Sikes to close the winning game.

Sunday, junior, Korey Anderson took the loss with 3.2 innings pitched. Junior, B.J. Nobles, freshman, Tristan Baker, sophomore Dillon Bray, senior Taylor Durand and sophomore, Dylan Biumi all came to help out but couldn’t pull ahead in the pitches against the Warhawks.
“We need to play all together every game opposed to one portion of the team being good one day and then not the other days. Going forward we have to have all the cylinders click and stay hot through all nine innings.” Said sophomore, Spencer Holcomb explained.
Western Carolina will have a mid-week nonconference game Tuesday, March 1 and Wednesday, March 2, both scheduled at 4:00 pm in Cullowhee.
