Cosplayers and comic lovers will gather on Saturday, April 9, for the Third Annual Whee-Con at Western Carolina University. It will take place in the UC Grandroom from 10-6 p.m.
Whee-Con is an event sponsored by The Comic Club and the Student Government Association (SGA). It is the annual comic book convention that WCU’s students put on. It features some of the best quality comic, manga, anime, and nerd shops on the Western side of North Carolina.
“There will be a costume contest and panels throughout the event and multiple vendors selling comics, video games, collectibles, board games, and card games,” said Aaron Ashburn, head of the Whee-Con Committee.
Famous internet cosplayer Olivia Mears will be a guest hosting a panel as well as judging the costume contest. She will be selling her art-dolls for the first time before listing them online. Her panel will be about how to make home-made costumes for cheap and a she will also give a basic introduction on what cosplaying is all about.
There will also be Magic: The Gathering card game and anyone interested can play.
“Last year there was about 600 people,” said Jesse Chen, vice president of the Comic Club.
“[The expectation] is that about 800 people will come to the event this year,” said John Cracchiolo, President of the Comic Club.
They are anticipating this event to be enjoyable and a great time for everyone.
