Student Appreciation week kicked off on Monday, April 18 with bouncing, playing and funnel cakes. The day included Cat Bash, Repercussion Music and ended with screening of the movie Zoolander on the U.C. lawn.
“I think this is a really good opportunity for the school, and I’ve never heard of any other school doing something like this before. I think that student appreciation week is a perfect way for students to relieve stress and prepare for exams,” said student Michelle Pallium.
One of the more interesting activities on the U.C. lawn on Monday was a table run by the sorority Delta Zeta that allowed students to throw paint on them in exchange for a donation to the Starkey Hearing Organization.
“This is part of Delta Zeta’s Learn to Listen week, where we’re using proceeds to donate to the Starkey Hearing Organization. What we’re doing right now is called “Paint a Delta Zeta.” You can purchase a water gun or a paint
bucket and throw paint on one of the members of the chapter and the proceeds go towards the Stark Hearing Organization,” said Delta Zeta member, Avery Minnick.
Another station that filled the air with a nice aroma of sweets was the funnel cake tent, which had lines backed up with students anticipating a free funnel cake.
“Funnel cakes fill the students with joy and makes their day a whole lot better, and that’s what we aim to do by providing funnel cakes to students,” said local Sylva native, Glenn Rainey.
Overall, the event attracted many students and faculty on the lawn, but this is just the beginning of a busy week of activities.
