Western Carolina University’s track and field team hosted the Catamount Travel Center Invitational on Friday, April 29.
The WCU men’s team won first place in the home meet. They scored 330 points by the end of the meet. East Tennessee State University finished second with 174 points. WCU students’ individual scores led us to the overall win.
Catamount junior, Scott Peretin, took first place in the men’s shot put and in the hammer throw.
“Hammer was definitely my best event today. I threw a 49. 43 [meters] to begin with and that is a pretty good opening mark for me usually, it’s getting up towards my PR [personal record],” said Peretin.
Other Men’s Catamounts that finished first:
- Tremaine Kernes in the 100 meter dash
- Manteo Mitchell, WCU Alumni, finished first in the 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash
- Justin Kenard in the 800 meter Run
- Kevin Hires in the 110 meter hurdles, triple jump
- Dylan Andrade in the 400 meter hurdles
- 4 x 400 meter relay (Henry Kiedy, Dante Ortado, Miles Greer, Draven Crist)
- Tyrie Adams in high jump
- David Johnson in long jump
- Scott Peretin in Shot put and hammer throw
The Catamount women finished second in the home meet. They scored 174 points. Georgia State University won first with 248 points.
Western Carolina Head Track coach, Danny Williamson, says it is time to get ready for final exams and the Southern Conference Tournament two weeks from now.
“Two weeks from now, we’ll have the Southern conference championship here. Just trying to keep everybody moving and get a little bit better hopefully,” said Williamson.
The SoCon tournament will be in Cullowhee on May 12 and 13.
