The Catamount softball team is set to have a first in program history with Mississippi State.
So be sure you are at the Catamount Softball Complex on Friday, Oct. 14, at 4:30 p.m.
Western Carolina has played many South Eastern Conference teams since their inaugural season in 2006. They played the Auburn Tigers, the Florida Gators, the Ole Miss Rebels, the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Georgia Bulldogs. Western will now add Mississippi State to the list of SEC foes.
Catamount senior pitcher Courtney Buchanan is ready for this historic matchup.
“It is always fun to go play against the bigger schools that are so well known for their softball programs. I feel that is makes the experience more memorable. I remember growing up and watching these bigger teams play on TV like Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina. Now I’m the one that’s getting to play against them. It’s definitely a dream come true,” Buchanan said.
Her friend and teammate, sophomore catcher, Madison Armstrong is just as excited.
“It’s fun to compete against schools like South Carolina, Georgia and now Mississippi State. It pushes us to give everything we have and in the end it makes us a stronger team,” Armstrong said.
Armstrong and Buchanan are hoping for a big turnout for the crowd.
“A big part of home field advantage is having our fans there. We are an exciting team to watch and love to play the game of softball. We hope to share that love for the game with everyone else,” Armstrong said.
Come and be part of this first meeting between the Catamounts and the Bulldogs.
