Catamounts lose a hard fought game and now have lost four straight after Saturday’s to the Lady Mocs 60-48.
The first quarter was another slow start for the Catamounts as they go for 4-12 shooting adding to only 9 points. Chattanooga took advantage of this slow start and were able to come out of the first quarter with a 9 point lead. UTC’s guards, Chelsey Shumpert and Lakelyn Bouldin were red hot from downtown as the shot 4-5 in just the first quarter.
Catamounts did bounce back in the second quarter by going on their own 8-2 run to try and get back in the game. Cats quickly cooled down and with the struggles rebounding and hitting shots allowed the Mocs to stretch their lead to 12 to end the half.
“It was mainly the first half we just let them do whatever they wanted and it wasn’t till the second half where we really stepped up,” said WCU’s freshman forward, Tess Harris.
WCU’s Tess Harris got the second half started right for the Catamounts as the started the third quarter with another 8-2 run. It seemed every time the Cats went on a run the Mocs were able to match it. The Mocs were able to dominate the paint thanks to the SoCon leader in rebounds, Jasmine Joyner. Joyner was able to take advantage of the Cats inability to crash the boards. With too many second chance points allowed by the Cats the Mocs were able to keep their lead for the rest of the game.
Good news for the Cats as Tess Harris lead all scores with 17 points and was able to keep her three point streak alive making it seven straight games with at least one three pointer made. UTC’s Jasmine Joyner proved why she is the top rebounder in the SoCon and was able to grab 12 rebounds for her team.
Cats hope to end their current losing streak as the season comes to a close. Their next game will be at Ramsey center on Feb. 25, at 4:30 p.m against UNCG.
“I think we will come out with the win on Saturday,” Harris said confident to their win at home.
