What better way to kick off WCU Student Appreciation Week than ice cream with the Chancellor? On the UC lawn, students enjoyed nice weather and an ice cream social with Chancellor David Belcher on Monday, April 17. Student Appreciation Week is a week filled with fun events to award students for all their hard work throughout the semester.
Vanilla, strawberry and chocolate ice cream along with their favorite toppings was served free of charge to students.
Belcher was proud of the turnout and of all the work the students have done in and out of the classroom.
“It’s so good to have all the students come out and enjoy this,” said Belcher.
Student, Krista Rickards, enjoyed the social and is looking forward to the rest of the week.
“It’s a perfect day for ice cream. It was so nice to talk to the Chancellor. I got so much chocolate ice cream, I can’t even eat it all. I’m pumped about the rest of the week,” said Rickards.
Music, food, and giveaways are in store for the rest of the week. Wale and Niykee Heaton concert on Thursday, April 20 is the highlight of the week.
“The whole week is about showing students how much we care about them and how much we appreciate all of their work and their dedication to the institution,” said Brandon Lokey, assistant director of Campus Programs.
With students getting stressed from yet another semester coming to a close, events of student appreciation week show students that their school and faculty are there to support them.
“It was a great idea to have ice cream with the chancellor out on the lawn so that we can get to know him and get to see him personally because we don’t get to see him often and it’s nice to be able to talk to him over a nice treat,” said student Briana McManus.
Ice cream socials with the chancellors will continue for future student appreciation weeks.
