Lights out performance by the Catamounts as they dominated the Davidson Wildcats on Saturday, Sept. 9.
The Catamounts had an offensive explosion with 778 total yards of offense and defeat the Wildcats 63-17.
WCU quarterback Tyrie Adams picked apart Davidson’s defense going 10-13 passing with 274 yards through the air and 5 touchdown passes.
Senior Catamount receivers, Steffon Hill and Terryon Robinson, were able to get 100 plus receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns each.
“Tyrie was on target every time and that is a great feeling,” said senior wideout Terryon Robinson.
Davidson’s quarterback Taylor Mitchell had a night he would like to forget as he went 9-20 passing for 98 yards, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions.
The stand out player of the game was WCU senior running back, Detrez Newsome. On 16 carries, he racked up 288 yards rushing with 3 rushing touchdowns. He was able rack up 200 plus yards and scored three times by halftime. There was just no slowing him down making everything look so easy, but he gives full credit to his offensive line.
“I give all the credit to our offensive line. I wouldn’t have had the game I had if it wasn’t for them. They did a great job to open holes,” said Newsome.
The Cats look to add another win to the column as they will take on the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs who look to bounce back after a 0-2 start to the season. The game is on Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. at Ernest W. Spangler Stadium.
