First snow closes WCU on last day of classes

Snow day at WCU. Photo by WCU Campus Dining, March 2017.

The rapidly changing winter weather conditions prompted the university to suspend face-to-face classes (daytime and evening) in Cullowhee and Biltmore Park-Asheville today, Dec. 8.

The weather closed all local public and charter schools in Jackson and Haywood county.

For WCU employees, University offices will be operating under Condition 1 – Reduced Operations. Commuting faculty and staff should exercise discretion and good judgment in deciding whether to attempt travel during hazardous conditions.

Due to slick road conditions on campus, CatTran also suspended its service for the foreseeable future.

Today was the last day of classes and many professors had planned final presentation that will have to be canceled or moved to the exam time.

According to the email from the university the faculty are still expected to provide meaningful online/alternative assignments for the suspended classes. Students should be in touch with faculty and complete the assignments.

Online classes are not affected by weather-related changes to the regular class schedule.

So enjoy the snow day!!!!
