After 13-innings in the Saturday series finale against Canisus, the WCU baseball team fell 12-11 in a big heartbreaker. The Cats were swept in their second series and first home series of the season.
Canisus got on the board early in the doubleheader, Friday and kept their lead defeating WCU 15-4 and then again 9-0 in game two.

Tristan Baker and Taylor Purus had the losses in Friday’s games while freshman, Ryan Mitschele accepted Saturday’s.
His first time on the mound, Mitschele, looked to end the pitcher’s duel in extra innings with six strikeouts.
Matt Koehler, Spencer Holcomb, and Kitt Capel helped get a few runs over the weekend with their home runs, but it was not enough to get ahead and stay ahead.
The Cats stay at home for two mid-week games against our mountain neighbors, UNCA and long-time rival Appalachian State.

A former SoCon team, App State, travels to Cullowhee for their first matchup of the season. WCU will head to face the Mountaineers in Boone in April for the second game. The Catamounts currently lead in the wins against the Mountaineers (82-48-1) but are on a two-game losing streak from the last few matchups.
The first pitch against Appalachian State will be on Tuesday, Feb 28 at 4 p.m.
