Intercultural Affairs (ICA) and the Sexuality And Gender Alliance (SAGA) are hosting the 2018 WCU Drag Show, and for the first time ever, students will have the chance to audition to be a queen on stage!

Auditions are on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 5 p.m. in the UC Theater, but students must email Tyler Melvin at tsmelvin@wcu.edu 24 hours in advance of the audition. Students must perform in front of a panel of judges with the routine they wish to perform on stage. Students will be chosen based on overall score from the judges.

The students chosen will be preforming with local drag performers from Asheville as well as this year’s host Shae Couleé from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9.

“This is our first-time having auditions for student performers for our drag shows. It is an amazing experience to get yourself out there and feel like a queen,” said Alexis Brodie, president of SAGA.

The drag shows in the past have included the host queen from RuPaul’s Drag Race, performers from Asheville and maybe one or two student performers. Big interest from students to participate have allowed the organizers to open up the event to everyone.

The students chosen by judges to participate most likely will be performing in front of a full house, due to the over 400 student audience the past two years. Last year the event was at full capacity for the UC Grandroom, with many people having to be turned away. SAGA and ICA are making plans to use Ramsey as the event location to accommodate more people if this year is as successful as the last.

Tickets will be available for free to pick up at the UC guest service desk on Sept. 26. Show starts at 8 p.m. on Oct. 3.

Needless to say, this event is gaining interest to both watch the spectacle and be a part of it.

If you want to feel like a queen come join the show!
