Bardo Arts Center brings the “Rocky Horror Shadow Cast” to WCU on Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m.
“Rocky Horror Picture Show” is a comedy musical originally released in 1975 as a movie. The film follows a newly engaged couple encounter with the eccentric Dr. Frank-N-Furter after the couple’s car breaks down. They arrived at Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s house, expecting to use his phone and things do not go as planned.
The show became a cult classic with many adaptations through years including live action shows and shadow casts.
A shadow cast is where people mimic the actors on the screen live on stage and in the crowd while the movie is playing.
Casey Jowers, senior at Western Carolina University is the artistic director for the WCU version of Rocky Horror Shadow Cast. Jowers is working as the lead ambassador for Bardo Arts Center when he stepped up to organize and direct the shadow cast.
“The shadow cast is there so the audience can interact, they can throw and yell things and rather than just a movie, it becomes an experience,” Jowers explains.
In addition to the shadow cast, there will be goodie bags full of things to throw that correspond to certain songs in the movie. Also, if it is a first-time experience, a red V for virgin will be written on your hand.
“This is one of those things that brings people together, and the fact that the audience interacts with the people on stage and the movie and it’s not as formal as a typical show,” Jowers said. “It really creates this sense of community.”
