Make sure you bring your dancing shoes and an empty stomach to celebrate the Appalachian culture.

The annual Mountain Heritage Day is this Saturday, Sept. 28, at the intramural field behind the Camp building on WCU.

It is a whole day event that starts at 10 a.m. but come early to get a good parking spot.

Visitors will have over 130 food and craft vendors to choose from and three stages of live Appalachian entertainment to enjoy all day.

“We want to celebrate, share, and educate on the culture of the region. Also, highlight music, dance, and crafts that the Cherokee and settler culture have been doing for years,” Peter Koch, education associate at the Mountain Heritage Center, said.

Visitors can also participate or watch a number of family-friendly activities that include traditional Cherokee Indian games, wagon rides, clogging lessons and many other exciting things to choose from.

In addition, visitors can expect performances from the Bailey Mountain Cloggers, Stoney Creek Band, Apple Blossoms Cloggers along with other performances throughout the day. See the full schedule and where to find your favorite activity.

The Southeast Tourism Society has named this event one of the top 20 events in the southeastern mountains.
