WCU is hosting Furman in a doubleheader

Western Carolina women’s and men’s basketball team are playing at home on Thursday, Feb. 6, against the Furman University Paladins in the Ramsey Center starting at 5 p.m. with the women’s team and 7:30 p.m. with the men’s.

This is the second time WCU has played Furman with the men’s team losing 90-88 in double overtime at Timmons Arena on Dec. 1. The women’s lost 65-55 on Jan. 12 at Furman. Overall, the WCU women’s basketball team is 23-16 at home against Furman. The men’s team has played the Paladins 75 times with Furman leading 45-29 in games won.

Some people to watch in the Thursday games are Freshman Jewel Smalls, who is a leading candidate for SoCon Freshman of the year, and Junior forward Onno Steger, who was named Southern Conference student-athlete of the week.

The contest will be streamed on ESPN3 and can also be seen on WMYA, My 40 in the Ashville/Greenville/Spartanburg television market. It can also be heard on WWCU-FM, Power 90dot5 in Cullowhee, 105.7-FM/540-AM WRGC in Sylva and well as online at catamountsports.com.

Fans are encouraged to wear gold to support the Catamounts. Gold rush T-shirts will be given to the first 400 students sitting in the Cat Cage student section between games.
