The Best of the West series finale

WCU’s Last Minute Productions hosted the series finale of the second annual Best of the West talent competition on Wednesday, April 24. The best of the West Competition is open to all students to enter. The competition entails performing a talent act of one’s choice with hopes of being titled “Best of the West”.

The event was included as part of Student Appreciation Week on campus. Terry Young was awarded first place for his dance routine after performing in front of a panel of judges.

“I’ve been dancing for about eight years and I just like to perform whenever I get the chance,” said Young.

Young performed a hip-hop routine to a remix of “Chain Hang Low” originally by American rapper Jibbs.

Second place was awarded to singer/songwriter, Nicole Forbes, who performed an original song titled “Safe Place” while strumming her guitar. Forbes is no stranger to the stage at WCU as she has also competed at WCU’s Got Talent competition hosted in the fall.

Rosie Green took home the third-place trophy for her dance performance. Green performed an awe-inspiring tap routine to “How Far I’ll Go” from “Moana”, an animated Disney movie. The WCU sophomore introduced her routine by sharing with the audience her performance goals.

“I want to be someone who empowers others to just be themselves,” said Green.

This talent competition opened up a great opportunity for individuals to embrace their unique talents. The show consisted of eight acts which included a variety of dancing, singing, spoken word poetry, and comedy. The eight performers made it past the preliminary round of Best of The West that took place earlier in 2019. After defeating other competitors, the competition was much tougher and required everyone to bring their a-game.
