Western Carolina University’s School of Stage and Screen will be opening their production season with Agatha Christie’s classic, The Mousetrap, at the end of September.
The production will run from Sept. 26 to 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 29 at 3:30 p.m. in WCU’s Hoey Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now in the WCU Bardo Arts Center website. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $25 for seniors and $10 for children or WCU students.
The Mousetrap is one of the most recognized murder mysteries in the world and is also the longest running play in Broadway history.
One of the main characters in the play, Mollie Ralston, is played by Kelsey Willard, a senior BFA Acting major in the School of Stage and Screen at WCU.
The role of Mollie Ralston, one of only three female characters in the production, was Willard’s top choice during auditions for The Mousetrap.
Willard says that Mollie’s character teaches the idea that there is more to people than you may assume.
“A lot of people have had bad things happen to them in their life,” says Willard, “but you can’t tell that just from like seeing them and maybe talking to them a couple of times.”
As Willard explains, Agatha Christie’s masterpiece will be understandable for all generations, making the connection between history and current events.
