Super Smash Saturday

Twelve hours of animated battle and friendly conversation provided for a great ending to the Whee Game Club’s first tournament of the semester.

The video game tournament was held from noon to midnight on Saturday, Sept. 21, in the multipurpose room of the University Center.

“Everyone had great competition. Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros went particularly well, which is always great,” Whee Game Club President, Isaiah Hanna said.

Throughout the day, 30 to 40 people flowed in and out, each paying $5 for the opportunity to play in all six tournaments.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate was the first competition of the day, and it proved to be the most popular.

“It was fun. I won a few matches of Smash and I had a really great time,” sophomore Whee Game Club member, Jonathan Barber said.

Competitors were paired off randomly based on a bracket created by the executives of the club. This provided for fair battles that eliminated players after three loses.

“This was the best Saturday I’ve had at school yet. I came out just to try playing in a competition, but I didn’t expect to have so much fun,” freshman, Salma Pesina said.

Pesina showed off her skills by playing as the character, “Kirby”, which she said, “is so cute and it kind of represents me right now because I’m surrounded by guys.”

There will be another tournament held before the end of this semester, and two more will be in the spring.

Anyone can become a member of the club and anyone is welcome to join the tournaments.
