The 2020 Whee Lead Conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29 in the University Center at WCU. The conference is free and open to all students, staff and faculty.
WCU has been holding Whee Lead conferences since 2011. This year’s conference focuses on inclusive leadership.
The conference is being co-hosted this year by the WCU Department of Campus Activities and Intercultural Affairs.
Leslie Cavin, Assistant Director of Leadership Programs for WCU, said, “our conference aspires to be both an experience and a model of inclusion, as well as a space to learn and practice leading inclusively.”
Cavin explained that this involves leadership at all levels of human systems, including personal, interpersonal, group, organization and community.
Inclusivity is an important value for the WCU community. The WCU Community Creed promotes the value of diversity, inclusive excellence and individual differences.
“The goal is a world where we neither exclude others nor settle for less; rather, everyone and the collective get more,” said Cavin.
This year’s conference will have 29 breakout sessions based on the conference’s four competencies: Self-Consciousness, Cultural Intelligence, Commitment, and Cognition.
This year’s keynote speaker is Tish Norman. Norman is the Executive Director of Transforming Leaders Now, Inc., a leadership development company specializing in corporate strategies, college and career readiness, and women’s empowerment.
