Wake County hospital can be overwhelmed; schools providing online instruction and laptops for kids

Life in Wake County remains on pause as a Stay-at-home order was put into exercise by Roy Cooper on March 27, at 5 PM. This measure taken is drastic, but necessary as America has been in quarantine since March. 11. As the state-wide  population joins the entire U.S. population s in quarantine, just how serious is it to practice social distancing?

As of March 30, 150 cases in Wake County have been reported. ABC 11’s investigative team projects that, if the cases of COVD-19 keeps doubling, there will be 33,000 cases in the county by April 15. Out of those cases, a projected 3,300-6,600 would need to be hospitalized. Consequently, that would out number the amount of hospital beds available in the county, as Wakemed, Duke and UNC Rex offers about 1,607 hospital beds.

As all school, and the majority of businesses remain closed, the news development with the COVD-19 pandemic is the county’s delay on offering laptops for students in-need.  Marlo Gaddis, chief of tech in Wake County says the county is trying to gain all information from families of children who are in-need of a laptop to take home.

Above, Gaddis explains the county’s stance in the situation, as well as a Q&A session included in the video with questions from concerned parents.

This will be an on-going coverage, as circumstances change and the affect of the COVID-19 pandemic rapidly impact all areas of the country.
