With COVID-19 continuing to make its way through the states, more and more people are asked to take shelter in their homes and to not leave. With this, there has been a growing concern for mental health as well as physical health.
To help ease these concerns here are a few tips and tricks to staying healthy while following the “stay at home” order.
1. Spend time with family members you don’t typically get to spend time with and look for the good rather than the bad. Choose to take breaks from the television and social media, including the news for specific hours throughout the day and you might start to see a change in your stress. — Maintain your mental health!
2. Don’t be afraid to reach out to health care providers during this time. Even if you can’t physically see them they will gladly answer your questions online or through text messaging. Pay attention to your behavior changes and try to track them. This could help in the long run by being able to see your triggers or note when your mood fluctuates. Keep in contact with family members and friends through text, mail, social media, phone calls or face-time so you are still talking to people and you’re not staying alone and locked up. Let people know if you’re struggling with your anxiety and depression or whatever other mental health issues you may have going on.
3. Maintaining physical health during the COVID-19 crisis is another highly searched question. For starters, to try and maintain your physical health, choose healthier options like water over alcohol and sodas. Choose to go outside and take a walk or sit outside and just enjoy the fresh air. There are several ways you can keep working out at home. Look up at home workout videos, look into Zumba or dance classes online and on YouTube. Monitor your medical supplies, be sure you have what you need and maybe a few extras. The biggest take away is to stay home if you feel sick in anyway, this will not only protect you, but your family members, friends or even random strangers you pass by or happen to come into contact with. You’re home on quarantine so maybe look into picking up a new hobby like yoga or palates. Even do photography with your siblings, parents or even just yourself. While you’re stuck on quarantine be sure you’re continuing to eat a balanced diet and that you’re exercising. Don’t take quarantine as a free be to stay up all night every night because that can have a toll on your physical health. It’s okay to go outside for a walk or to bike. Look at other ways to keep fit and even look at fitness instructors who possibly have virtual online classes they are offering. Do what makes you happy and makes you feel good.
