WCU’s administration stayed true to their commitment to be a diverse and inclusive university. Citing violations of the Student Code of Conduct, the university said that the students involved in both of the videos will no longer attend WCU.
“On Saturday, August 22, 2020, it came to light that videos containing racial slurs were being circulated on social media depicting three female Western Carolina University students and one non-student. University officials responded consistent with the WCU Code of Student Conduct. As a result, the students seen in the videos in question are no longer enrolled at WCU and will not return.

The university will have no further comment on the individuals involved.”
In response to WCU administration’s actions, Black Student Union President, Brittney Windham, released this statement to WCJ:
“I am very happy that the university stood behind their words and showed us their actions. Chancellor Brown addressed the situation immediately by gathering student leaders of color that same night the first video came out and I am thankful for that. The university handled this situation way better than they have in the past so I applaud the growth, but there is still more to do. There needs to be policies put into place so that students of color can feel like they can report a racist act committed against them and be heard and know that consequences will be given. We are moving in the right direction, so I just hope we keep the momentum going.”
