WCJ Podcast: Money in Politics

Election day is hours away, and over $14 billion has been spent on this election which is a record. In North Carolina, $215 million of outside money has been spent on the U.S. Senate race between Cal Cunningham and Thom Tillis.

With massive sums of money being spent on elections each year, and this year in particular, it’s important to understand what type of impact and influence it can have on the elections and on politics in general. To learn more about money’s impact on politics, WCJ had a discussion with Dr. Chris Cooper, a WCU professor of political science and an expert on politics in North Carolina and U.S.

Topics covered include dark money, the impact of Buckley v. Valeo, money in local elections, indirect contributions and more.
