WCU baseball coach not letting the end of winning streak deter the team

The WCU baseball team was riding an 8 game win streak into their March 30 meeting against the top 10 ranked Tennessee Volunteers who would end up bringing their win streak to an end.

“You have to play your “A” game against a nationally ranked top 10 team, they’re not going to give it to you,” Head Coach Bobby Moranda explained over the phone.

The Catamounts lost 2 of 3 in their following series, against the Wofford Terriers on April 2 and 3. This brought the Catamounts away record to 4-6 this season against tough competition.

Moranda acknowledged the teams struggles when not playing at home but also admits that the Catamounts have faced tough competition on the road.

“Other than going on the road, that’s probably the only thing difference, you know playing on the road versus playing in Cullowhee. We’ve been on the road against good teams like Charlotte and Wilmington,” Moranda said.

Despite the trouble on the road, Moranda knows his approach to his team and program can produce great end results and is determined to continue to coach his team with a winning mentality.

“We have a little saying and it’s Consistently Unfazed By Adversity… we call it CUBA… If you have adversity then you can get through with good people and if you have bad people then you’ll have guys who are complaining or they’re not happy or whatever, but that’s not what we’re about.”

The Catamounts hit the road against the Gardner-Webb Running Bulldogs on Wednesday April 7 at 5 p.m. before facing conference opponent VMI at home on April 9 and 10.
