WCU Track & Field hosts Catamount Classic

WCU Track & Field hosted their annual two-day Catamount Classic Track Meet on Friday, April 16 and Saturday, April 17.

In attendance of the Catamount Classic were Southern Conference opponents East Tennessee State and Wofford, as well as non-conference opponents Tusculum, North Georgia, and UNC-Asheville, among others.

The weekend was dominated by WCU Field events which included three individual wins on Friday in Men’s Pole Vault (Thomas Martin), Men’s Long Jump (Shon Pratcher), and Women’s Hammer Throw (Victoria Solheim). The Cats also racked up seven individual wins on Saturday including Men’s and Women’s Shot Put (Mac Bennett and Lesleigh Tabor) , Men’s and Women’s Discus Throw (Jay Stanley and Victoria Solheim), Men’s and Women’s High Jump (Brandon Harvey and Imani Boyd), and Women’s Triple Jump (Makaila McIntyre).

Prior to Saturdays contest, WCU honored 14 seniors and their contributions to WCU Track & Field.

“It was really sentimental,” said senior sprinter Kayla Smith. “This has been the best team I’ve been on and I am forever grateful for the opportunity.”

The Cats will next be in action on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2 as they will host the 2021 SoCon Championship meet at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
