Dancing tournament turns into just dance flash mob

One of the many ways to reach people is through dance and this dance gaming tournament did just that.

Gamers and Just Dance enthusiasts came together on Nov. 9 in a dance gaming tournament hosted by Last Minute Productions. Every year a gaming tournament is hosted and each time they are different.

And this year the tournament was really different.

“By doing a tournament-style students love the competitiveness of it all and it helps narrow it down because we are giving away prizes, but over its because that’s what students love to see and want to see,” Lucas Beal, Campus Activities Grad Assistant and Adviser, said.

He expected many students to show up and sign up because “it’s something new and exciting, it’s Just Dance not a lot of opportunities for students to just dance, no pun intended, here on-campus or just to get out to have a little bit of fun.” And there were prizes for the three best dancers.

First place gets a Razer BlackShark V2 Gaming Headset, second place gets a Razer Cynosa V2 Gaming Keyboard and third place gets a Razer Viper Mini Ultralight Gaming Mouse.

“I came to this tournament because I kind of wanted to experience more events on campus, especially because last year was my first year here, so there wasn’t really anything to and now that the campus is opening up a little more it’s just kinda regaining what I lost last year,” sophomore Sierra Merghan, said.

At the start of the event, there were some technical issues happening with the gaming system. This caused the event to be delayed for 30 minutes. Many students were not happy with the wait and left before the issues could be fixed.

Surprisingly a few students stayed and to pass the time decided to play Just Dance songs from YouTube and dance all together in one big group.

This became so popular that even with the game fixed to play one-on-one again, students decided to continue group dancing.

With all the students deciding to dance in one big group and not tournament style, Last Minute Productions did not hand out prizes. They say the students having fun even with the technical difficulties as its own prize.

Just as Beal said before it’s something new and exciting for students to do even when there were no other opportunities available. Just dancing is a fun but simple way for everyone and anyone to get their groove on.

Even though Last Minute Productions did not hand out prizes, Merghan and the other students there walked out of that event hall with smiles and laughs planted on their faces.
