This will be the first indoor production in over a year due to COVID-19. The theatre will be at full capacity on opening night, but the audience is required to wear masks during the show.

The production is directed by Sarah Norris.  Norris is from New York City, and came in as a guest director to WCU.  The choreography is done by Liz Borom, and the musical direction by Ike Webster.

Heathers: The Musical is based off a 1988 comedy film titled Heathers.  Starring Winona Ryder, Christian Slater and Kim Walker.  It is a cult-classic film that is loved by many just like the musical.

The story is about a girl named Veronica, who meets a group of girls who are known as “the Heathers” and she is just trying to get through high school.

The musical touches on topics like bullying, peer pressure and drinking. The musical also discusses other dark topics as well, and you can find more detailed information online while purchasing tickets.

Payton Miller, a senior Musical Theater student, plays the role of Heather Chandler in the show.

“The goal of the show is to show the audience the worst aspects of humanity and how to treat those aspects with love instead of anger,”  Miller said.

This production will be the last show of the 2021 season for Mainstage.
