After a brief, yet ugly election, the results of the SGA elections are in.
The election was marked by rumors of executive gossip, slandering among candidates and a Turning Point takeover on YikYak, an anonymous social media outlet.
The Student Body President-Elect is Estefany Gordillo-Rivas, a second-year student majoring in forensic science and forensic anthropology and minoring in leadership. Gordillo-Rivas is the current director of community engagement for SGA.
The Student Body Vice-President-Elect is CJ Mitchell, a sophomore double majoring in business management and hospitality with minors in sports management and leadership. Mitchell is currently a senator on SGA’s legislative branch.
All 41 of the senators who were campaigning were elected to Student Body Senate. The list of those names is as follows.
Inauguration of the new administration will take place April 11 with the first senate meeting for the new administration on April 18.
The information was provided from SGA’s press release certifying the election results. Results are final unless the Elections Committee determines any candidate violated rules related to elections. All complaints regarding elections must be filed by noon on March 4.
A total of 1,039 students voted, which is roughly 8.74% of WCU’s posted 11,877 enrollment for the 2021-2022 academic year.
