The event is organized by Base Camp Cullowhee and is coming back after two years hiatus. This will be the 38th year of the event.

“Tuck River Cleanup has been a long running river cleanup on the Tuckasegee River in the section between Dillsboro and the flea market,” Casey Fenton, an Interim Assistant Director for Base Camp Cullowhee, said. “It’s the largest single day river cleanup in the United States.”

It is a free event and there are 600 spots for volunteers to register the day of the cleanup. 300 volunteers will be shuttling out to the river in two different time slots. There is an option to walk instead of raft down the river, but the walker capacity is only 30 people.

Morning registration is from 8 to 9 a.m. The second round of registration is from noon to 1 p.m. Walker registration time is from 10 to 11 a.m. The event is set to end around 5 p.m.

The Tuck River Cleanup is an opportunity for community service hours, and the first 500 people to register will get one of the popular free t-shirt. Volunteers will be entered into raffle by a number that is off the waiver they sign during registration.

It is advised by Base Camp Cullowhee to wear comfortable clothes that will get dirty during the cleanup. It is also required to wear closed toed shoes on the rafts. For more information on the cleanup, check out Base Camp Cullowhee .
