The rescheduled carnival is returning on April 19-20 from 4-9 p.m. on the UC lawns of the center of WCU. Last Minute Productions (LMP) is hosting the event for Student Appreciation Week (SAW) along with Department of Campus Activities (DCA).
“SAW for us is a way to celebrate our students and student leaders. During SAW, there are several departments that give awards to Catamounts who are doing great efforts for WCU and themselves,” said assistant director for WCU Communication, Diane Swenson.
The last carnival was canceled due to weather, and Swenson said, “we will likely not have a carnival during this week again unless weather doesn’t behave itself.”
She added that the Carnival will move back to Homecoming week in the Fall and invite RSOs to compete for a trophy and a pizza party. Keep in mind that the weather can affect any event, but the Homecoming carnival is still in the process of planning.
Yokal Local (local weather channel) shows that Tuesday evening will have clear skies with a low of 36 and Wednesday will be cloudy with a low of 46.
Wristbands pick-up for students and guests starts at 7:30 a.m. at the UC Service Desk on the second floor on the day they will be attending. Wristbands are free for students and guests pay $7. To get on the rides, wristbands need to be picked up before the carnival. Each student can only attend one day. There is a 1,500 limit with the sales ending at 8 p.m.
Swenson says in an email that the rides will be Hi Voltage Arena, Sizzler, Berry Go Round, Ferris Wheel, Spinner, Nuclear Obstacle Course, & Round-Up. Games available are Hi Striker and Water Race Game.
Aramark Marketing Manage Isabella Senatore said that the dining halls will not have carnival foods. In an email, she said that Catamount Dining is “excited to see what Campus activities will have at their event, but we have a regular dinner scheduled for both nights.
DCA will take care of food for the carnival days. They are promising canned drinks, popcorn and bagged chips. Students will receive a snack and drink voucher for one of each, but all items will be $1.
“Betty Rainny will be there serving her fried foods until supplies run out…Betty Rainny’s items are 1 per student,” Swenson tells. Rainny is a vendor that brings her fried foods like funnel cake to WCU.
