Walking with Out of the Darkness to raise awareness to suicides

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for college students. In 2020 for people 15-24 years old who died, 16.9% died from suicide. In 2021 14.5% in the same age bracket died from suicide.

Western Carolina University wanted to change that for their students, so a student-run organization, Out of the Darkness, was started to raise awareness about suicide and suicide prevention on campus.

Out of the Darkness held their 4th Annual Campus Walk on March 27 raising money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Over 139 people showed up for the campus walk.

WCU Out of the Darkness surpassed their goal of raising $5,000. At the end of their campaign, they raised $8,633.
