Health care and Medicaid expansion, housing, inflation, education, student loans forgiveness, opioid addiction, abortion were the topics for the only debate between the newly re-drawn 119 district for North Carolina Congress.

The incumbent Mike Clampitt, a retired fire captain from Bryson City, won the district for the second time in 2020. His new opponent, Al Platt is an architect but from Brevard. With the redistricting last year N.C. 119 consists of Swain, Jackson and Transylvania county.

During the debate at the Western Carolina University on Oct. 25 the audience of around 50 community members and students could hear Clampitt running on his record and experience in the legislature and Platt emphasizing investing in people, expanding Medicaid that will cover the health insurance for over half a million North Carolinians and bring money from Washington that will help economy and good paying jobs.
