After the craze of Black Friday, the town of Sylva got together as they do every year during the holiday season for the Sylva Christmas Parade.
The parade was on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 3 to 5 p.m. bringing the community, families, and visitors to Main Street to open the holiday season. They enjoyed candy and Christmas cheer as floats of different characters, organizations, marching bands, and of course, Santa came down the street.
The parade is organized by the Main Street Sylva Association, but as the director of the association and economic development representative for the Town of Sylva, Bernadette Peters, said it is a group effort.
“It usually takes about three months to plan. It’s a collaborative effort between the Main Street Sylva Association, the volunteers that are part of it, the town public works, the town police, and the town fire department,” Peters said.
She added that the town of Sylva funds the parade and the registration fees for the participating groups offset the funding.
Floats were lined up by the Sylva Fire Department at 1:30 p.m. to get ready for the big parade. The big theme for the parade this year was “A Superhero Christmas” and plenty of the floats had Batman, Spider-Man, and even people dressed up as their own superheroes representing their organization.
