Around 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, Bonnie Ross, the Facility Management Housekeeping Department Manager, received a call from Chris Ammons about flooding on the first and second floors of the Apodaca Science Building.

Ross was notified about a mechanical room causing leakage toward the backside of the building on the second floor that was seeping down to the first floor through the roofing. She was not given specifics as to what caused the leak.
The flooding started between facility maintenance shifts. Ross called in the cavalry from second shift to come in and mitigate the flooding and damage.
Some of the ceiling tiles on the first floor were damaged. Rod Colton, a Facility Management Supervisor over the carpentry department, responded quickly to remove the tiles before they started falling from the ceiling.
“It was all hands on deck,” Ross said. “What my team has been trying to do it get the water up. Extract the water out of the carpet and try to get things clean and dry. We got the blowers out trying to get the carpet dry.”
Facility Management will be monitoring the status of the Apodaca late into the night to ensure no more flooding occurs. It is unclear how much damage was caused or how much repairs will cost.
