The Catamounts Women’s Basketball team has struggled this season. They are sitting at 12-14 overall and 2-9 in conference so far this season under new head coach Jonathan Tsipis.

The Catamounts started 4-1 with their first loss coming to number 9 ranked Oklahoma Sooners 122-56.
The Catamounts ended up 10-5 during non-conference play. Their losses came to Oklahoma, Georgia State, Tennessee, Gardner-Webb, and Murray State. The Catamounts average 77.2 points per game (ppg) and allowing 65.2 (ppg) during this stretch.
Southern Conference play for the Catamounts began on Jan. 9. Since then, they have won 2 games going 2-9. The Catamounts first win in SOCON play happening when they won the battle against rival Eastern Tennessee State University 64-60 on Jan. 12.

The Catamounts then lost eight straight games by an average of 13.5 ppg. Their closest chance at a win was on Jan. 30 against Samford. The Catamounts were giving the Bulldogs all kinds of fits, sending the game into double overtime. The Catamounts ended up losing the game by 4 points, 90-86.
The Catamounts got their second conference win against the Furman Paladins on Feb. 15. They topped the Paladins 70-57, with three Catamounts scoring in the double-digits.
The team’s leading scorers for the season are senior guard Avyonce Carter and sophomore guard Tyja Beans.
Carter is averaging 15.1 ppg, while shooting 42.2% from the field. She has made 30.5% of her 3 point shots and 82.5% of her free throws.
Beans is averaging 12.6 ppg, with a team leading 55.3% in field goals. She also leads the team, shooting 40.0% from beyond the arch, and 81.3% in free throws. In addition, she is also the team leader in boards with an average of 8 rebounds per game.
