Webster Historical Society has officially voted in its new officers, board of directors and committee chairs.
Brandon Core, the newly elected president of Webster Historical Society, led the meeting on Wednesday, April 9, to elect new society officials.
Core was elected as president, with Rob Ferguson as vice president, Diane Schallock as secretary and Billie Bryson and Daniel Riggs as co-treasurers. Along with them, eight individuals were voted onto the board of directors, leaving one seat vacant.
Before this meeting, five committee chairs were decided: Molly Gregg for the Membership Committee; Tasha Youstin for the Programming and Events Committee; Shelly Gregg and Meredith Shafer for the Historic Preservation Committee; and Neal Morgan for the Fundraising Committee.
The Membership Committee announced membership tiers with dues ranging from $20 to $250. Core and Molly Gregg are still deciding on the benefits of the higher tiers.
There are also active and associate members, of which only active members can vote.
Core defined the difference between an active member and an associate member as, “If they live in one of the nine westernmost counties in Western North Carolina, they can be an active member. Anyone else is associate.
Even if folks start off as an active member and relocate, you can retain that active membership.”
The members present discussed the society’s involvement in the upcoming Webster May Day event. Core expressed his desire to have the society co-sponsor the event in more than name only. The society agreed to help financially as well as to send members to work the event.
The next steps for the Webster Historical Society are to build a website, host events and grow.
