The Western Carolina football team is set to play their annual white out game against Elon on Sept. 13 at E.J. Whitmire Stadium.

Catamount Athletics is encouraging fans to wear all white at the game, along with the players, for the traditional “White out Whitmire.” Along with the game, WCU will celebrate the 14th annual Freshman Run as well as Football Alumni Day. During the Freshman Run, all WCU freshmen will have the opportunity to lead the team out of the tunnel before the game. The Alumni Day celebration invites all former WCU football players, coaches, and staff back to Cullowhee for the game.
WCU redshirt senior running back Jaiden Bond is excited for the white out game.
“There’s going to be a lot of fun things happening, like the Freshman Run and Alumni Day, and a ton of people are going to be there. It’s one of my favorite games every year, and we’re all looking forward to it,” Bond said.
WCU defeated Elon 27-24 and 24-17 in their last two matchups in 2013 and 2024, respectively. The Catamounts enter this game looking to bounce back from losses against Gardner-Webb and Wake Forest in their first two games of the season.
Head Coach Kerwin Bell, during the Catamount Football Weekly, said the team is getting better, but was disappointed that the team started the season with two losses.
“I thought we got better this last week, that’s all we can ask for… just continue to get better and have success, and from success you gain confidence, and from confidence you become the kind of team that you can be down the road that can go compete at the highest level,” Bell said.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ at 2:30 and live on the radio on the Catamount Sports Network. Listen to the Stray Cats, a student ran pregame, halftime, and postgame show on 95.3 WWCU.
The Catamounts will play the first conference game and their third home game the following weekend, Sept. 20 at, against Samford.
