The Catamount women’s soccer team took on the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in the 13th match of the season on Oct. 2. The Cats entered the game with a 5-4-3 overall record and 1-1-1 in Southern Conference (SOCON) play.

The Catamounts were held out of the back of the net until the 13 minute of the match when Emma Soucy put the Cats on the board with the assist coming off the foot of Lucie Bertrand.
Soon after, Isabella DeMarco had a first-half natural hat trick. She scored in the 16-th, 17-th and 31-st minutes with assists coming from Addison Davis, Rylie Miemeyer, and Mary Mueth. This is Demarco’s third hat trick in her collegiate career.
This is also the first time since 2002 that a Catamount player has had a first-half hat trick.
At the end of the half, the Cats are leading the Keydets 4-0. The Catamounts had 16 shots, 3 saves and 10 corner kicks compared to VMI, 4 shots, 7 saves and 1 corner kick.
With the Cats leading 4-0 after the break, they did not let up as Demarco paid the favor back to Rylie Niemeyer with the assist to Niemeyer to put the Cats up 5-0 in the 56 minute. Just 1 minute later, Sofia Goclowski scored to add to the lead to make it 6-0. Malia Roberts scored her first goals of the season with a pair of goals in the 65 and 69 minutes giving the Catamounts a big 8-0 lead.
In the 82 minute, the last goal of the night came for the Catamounts from the leg of Ava Robitaille to finish off the night for the Catamounts. The final score is 9-0 with the Catamounts on top.

The game was not all offense. The Catamount’s goal keeper, Leanne Trudel had 6 saves and no goals allowed.
At the end of the match, the Cats had 36 shots, 6 saves, and 16 corner kicks. The Keydets had 8 shots, 11 saves and 2 corner kicks.
“Coming off the win last Friday, I think there was frustration in our group. We played well against Furman, just did not score any goals,” Head Coach, Chad Miller said. “Tonight we figured that part out.”
The next game is going to be on Oct. 5 in Charleston, South Carolina, against The Citadel at 2 p.m. in the afternoon and can be viewed on ESPN+.
