WCU starting Quarterback Taron “Tyger” Dickens was named the FCS Stats Perform Player of the week on Monday, Oct. 6. Dickens earned that honor as a result of his performance against the Wofford Terriers on Saturday, Oct. 4.

Dickens started the game, completing his first 46 passes, breaking the record for most completed passes in a game across all divisions. The previous record was 29 and that was set in 2013 by Princeton’s quarterback Quinn Epperly.
“You’re 53-56 378 passing yards and 3 touchdowns,” says WCU football’s head coach Kerwin Bell. “He has been so great these last three games, that record will probably never be broken.”
He also shattered the NCAA record for most completions in a row in a single season with 50. He finished out the previous week’s game against Campbell with 4 completions and added on the 46 from this week’s outing against Wofford. That record was previously set by Eastern Carolina’s Dominique Davis in 2011. Davis had 36 across two games.
“I’m so thankful for it and do not take it for granted,” Taron “Tyger” Dickens says. When asked how it feels to be named the FCS offensive player of the week his answer:
“It was just another day at the office, like my coaches tell me every day, prep for it and help me add confidence in my game play.”
Overall, Dickens went 53-56 for 387 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran the ball 19 times and gained 44 yards.
Dickens’ record-setting day led the Cats to a victory against the Terriers 23-21.
Dickens and the Catamounts take the field next against the Furman Paladins at home this Saturday, Oct. 11, at 2:30 p.m. and streaming live on ESPN+.
